Fire Call, 6th of February, Flooding, Buckland Abbey

Currently we get little feed back from people reading the blog. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments please use the facility below.

At 14:47 on the 6th of February, yelverton appliance was called to Flooding at Buckland Abbey. Recent heavy downpours had sodden the ground causing fresh rainfall to run off the land and cause flash flooding. On arrival at the Abbey we found the lane down to the cottages running like a river!! Run off water had flooded the pond and overflowed down the lane. This in turn had allowed water to flow behind the cottages and flood them, water was coming out of the front door of one of the cottages about a foot deep!! The crew used whatever we could get our hands on to divert the flow away from the rear of the cottages and made up for our 4×4 with sand bags from the station. Once the 4×4 arrived we managed to divert the flow to the rear of the cottages and make a sand bag wall to protect the cottages so far unaffected. I’ve included some photos.
