Fire Call, 5th of February, Chimney Fire, Buckland Monochorum.

Currently we get little feed back from people reading the blog. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments please use the facility below.

At 17:15 on the 5th of February, Yelverton appliance was called to a chimney fire at an address at Buckland  Monochorum. On arrival the crew found a chimney well alight. The crew extinguished the fire in the grate and used the chimney rods with the sprinkler head to extinguish the fire in the chimney.

Remember, to avoid chimney fires, make sure you regularly have your chimney swept and use well seasoned wood. If you are unfortunate to have a chimney fire remember you can extinguish the fire in the grate by applying water with a hand brush from a dust pan and brush set. Dip the brush into water and flick it onto the fire. This will limit the amount of water you put on and help prevent you being scalded by steam (water expands 1000 fold when it turns to steam) and the steam will slow the fire in the chimney. You need to call the Fire Service regardless as chimney fires can develop into house fires.
