Fire Call, 22nd of February, Caravan Fire, Princetown

Currently we get little feed back from people reading the blog. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments please use the facility below.

At 01:04 on the 22nd of February, appliances from Yelverton and Princetown were called to a caravan fire at Princetown. Princetown arrived at the scene first and found a camper van well alight, they deployed two Breathing apparatus and two hosereels and knocked the fire back. When Yelverton arrived we made water from a nearby hydrant and the BA crew knocked the fire out. During the process they came across a gas cylinder which made life a bit difficult for a while but eventually we managed to cool it suffiently to remove it from the camper. Western Power were called to check overhead cables and while we waited for their arrival Yelverton were sent home.

If you have a camper or caravan and use bottled gas remember to remove the bottle and store it away from the caravan when you’re not using it. Gas bottles are a real danger to fire fighters at these type of fires. Even if the venting system works they can still hurt fire fighters or worse explode and kill someone.

I’ve included a photo kindly sent to me by Kelly German.
