13th of June, Station Charity Hog Roast

Currently we get little feed back from people reading the blog. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments please use the facility below.

At 19:00 on the 13th of June, Yelverton Fire Station held its annual Charity Hog Roast. This year we have brought the event forward from September to June to get the better weather, it worked! Friday was a gloriously hot day and the turn out to the event was good. We had the Hog Roast, slightly different from previous years, we had huge leg joints instead of a full pig donated by Mr Jason Edney who delivered it from the Portland area so a massive thank you to him. Bidders Butchers kindly placed the meat on the spit borrowed from Meavy Oak Fair committee and I cooked it and it tasted lovely! We had a table magician, Candy Floss and Jail ale donated by Princetown Brewery so a big thank you to them. We begged and borrowed tables and chairs for village halls and the local scout troop and “The Normals” provided the evenings musical entertainment and did a good job of it. As usual I forgot to take photos but one of the guests did take lots of photos I’m just waiting for the email delivering them and I’ll publish as soon as possible. Local businesses and indivuals donated prizes for the raffle and clearly deserve a mention so here goes.

Charles Steevenson Wines, Tavistock Bed Centre, Kountry Kit, Mayflower Galleries, The Model Shop, DM Tools, Moor2Sea, Blinks, Yelverton Golf Club, Big Pine, Odds and Suds, All about country, South West Craft, John Baldwin, Pebbles, Active Sport, L’Atelier Art Gallery, Towis of Tavistock, Paint Box Gallery, I love Candy, Harmony, Go Mobile, Upstairs Downstairs, Beau Clothing, March Hair, Devon Tors, Co op, Bidders, Texaco, The Rock Inn, Rockin Rides, Cutting Company, Simply Flowers, Walkhampton Inn, Meavy Oak Inn, Flowers going Green, Moorland Garden, The Garden House, The Burrator Inn, Moxhams Garage and a special thanks to chris Northmoor who not only donated some nice prizes but helped out with the organising.

Sorry if I’ve missed anyone, please let me know and I’ll amend the list accordingly.

I think everyone had a good night and after expenses we raised a massive £1000.00 to be split equally between the Fire Fighters Charity and the NICU unit at Derriford Hospital, so a big thank you to everyone that turned up.

I’ll put the photos on when I get them.

  1. Thanks Fred and crew, another good evening enjoyed by everyone.Nice to meet some of the crew and to reminisce with the old boys.
    thanks again
