fire Call, 16th of July, Grass fire, Cann Woods, Plymouth

At 16:35 on the 16th of July, Yelverton 4X4 (V58M1) was called to assist Crownhill crew at a grass fire in Cann Woods. On arrival the crew used the 4X4 to carry crew to the incident and then used the fogging unit with CAFs foam to extinguish the fire. The fire was on an embankment near the off road cycle tracks through the woods and it was difficult to access, the fogging unit had to be extended to its full 45m to reach all areas affected. On this occasion the 4X4 went with a crew of two which kept the appliance (V58P1) on the run and available at station. Once again we were called to a small fire difficult to access. These fires tie up crews for long periods stretching resources at a time when the service is having to tighten its belt. Remember, if your out and about be careful how you dispose of cigarettes, barbecues and anything else that has potential to start fires.  Sorry no photos.
