At 19:21 on the 10th of December, Yelverton appliance was en route to Tavistock Fire Station with a volunteer crew to cover Tavistock while they went out for their Christmas meal, when they were called to a chimney fire in Tavistock. On arrival the crew found, as on the previous call, a small fire in the chimney above the register plate. As this register plate was accessable without removing either the woodburner or the register plate we were able to extinguish the fire with a stirrup pump and bucket of water without having to cause any damage. This was because the register plate had been fitted with an access plate for cleaning the chimney beside where the woodburner flu entered the plate. All very difficult to explain so I’ve included some photos.
